At the Warsaw University of Technology, Dr. Bernd M. Schmidt will present the group’s work on fluorinated porous organic cages assembled via dynamic covalent imine chemistry, alongside recent developments towards the utilisation of carbon–carbon bond formation in dynamic covalent systems.

O prelegencie

Dr. Bernd M. Schmidt ( CV (.pdf) ) is a Heisenberg Research Group Leader at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, where he leads a group focused on functional supramolecular systems. He obtained his PhD at Freie Universität Berlin and conducted postdoctoral research in Berlin and at the University of Tokyo, working with leading experts in organic and supramolecular chemistry. He is the recipient of multiple prestigious awards and fellowships, including the DFG Heisenberg Fellowship and the Thieme Chemistry Journals Award, and has been recognized as an emerging leader in organic and materials chemistry.

The research group explores diverse aspects of modern supramolecular chemistry, developing novel functional compounds and materials through self-assembly. The work places particular emphasis on energy-related and sustainable applications, leveraging confinement effects both in solution and in the solid state. Bridging the molecular and materials scales, the research spans individual molecules, discrete supramolecular assemblies, and extended frameworks, focusing on the rational design, synthesis, and characterisation of these systems, as well as their functional properties at various interfaces.
