Perspektywy educational monthly has published annual Engineering University Courses Ranking 2018. Our Biotechnology and Chemical Technology courses have been ranked as the best engineering university courses in their respective categories. Biotechnology course hold the title as the best Biotechnology course in Poland for the second year in the row, while Chemical Technology Course holds the title as the best Chemical Technology course for the sixth time in the row, keeping the title since the establishing of the ranking (since individual engineering courses are ranked).

Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology and Chemical Faculty, University of Warsaw established Warsaw Academic Chemical Consortium that has been given the status of National Centre of Scientific Excellence - KNOW (pol. Krajowy Naukowy Ośrodek Wiodący) in the chemical science field for years 2012-2017, the status is no longer given by the Ministry to any Consortium.

Events

On 19-20 September 2019, GIENAHS Alliance meeting has been held at Warsaw University of Technology.

First main topic of the meeting was discussion on law and program harmonization of Industrial PhD studies on the EU level as well as possible changes to programs for better suitability of Industrial PhD Studies for small and medium enterprizes need.

Second main topic of the meeting was dedicated to discussion of the results, summary and conclusions of the international survey performed by consortium in six countries that investigated SMEs needs from potential employees of R&D departments that are alumni of PhD studies.

The meeting passed in great atmosphere.

GIENAHS Alliance aims at addressing the strategic issue of interaction between HEIs and the particular target represented by SMEs. Alliance aim is to design a new model of European Industrial PhD curriculum SME-oriented targeted on European SMEs Innovation needs.

In December 2018 the Battery Materials Platform has been officially established at the Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology. Platform inlcudes researchers from most of the Faculty's Chairs and Departments. Platform's aim is to integrate all scientists working on materials, research methods and processes related to energy storage devices in order to stregthen and encourage cooperation and as a result achieve synergy.

Achievements

Research paper by scientists and students of Chair of Physical Chemistry published in Dalton Transactions journal (IF= 4.099), has been put on inside front cover of the issue published on 28.11.2018. Authors of the paper entitled "The effect of conformational isomerism on the optical properties of bis(8-oxyquinolato) diboron complexes with a 2,2′-biphenyl backbone" are Mateusz Urban, Patrycja Górka, Krzysztof Nawara, Krzysztof Woźniak, Krzysztof Durka and Sergiusz Luliński.

Prototype of the vibroisolator based on the shear thickening fluids for buildings protection against seismic shocks application developed by the team of employees and PhD students of the Faculty of Chemistry and of the Faculty of Materials Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology working under supervision of Prof. Mikołaj Szafran, PhD DSc Eng, Prof. Gabriel Rokicki, PhD DSc Eng and Prof. Marcin Leonowicz PhD, DSc, Eng has been awarded with Gold Medal at the International Fair Taiwan Innotech Expo, held on August 27-29, 2018 in Taipei, Taiwan. Inventors' team has been represented by Łukasz Wierzbicki, PhD Eng and Małgorzata Głuszek, MSc Eng.

Manufacturing method of the natural rose aroma (2-phenylethanol) with use of yeast developed by Jolanta Mierzejewska PhD and Karolina Chreptowicz PhD, Eng from the Chair of Drug and Cosmetics Biotechnology, Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology, has been awarded with Silver Medal at the International Warsaw Inventions Show - IWIS 2018. Participation in the Show has been financed by „KEPP - Commercialization – effective, friendly and professional” project conducted under „Innovations Incubator +” programme as a non-call Ministry of Science and Higher Education project co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under Smart Growth Operational Programme. Show has taken place on October 15-17, 2018. Invention has been presented by the employees of the Commercialisation and Technology Transfer Department of the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer Management of Warsaw University of Technology.
