3rd International Conference on Unconventional Catalysis, Reactors and Applications

The 3rd International Conference on Unconventional Catalysis, Reactors and Applications (UCRA-3) will be held in Warsaw, Poland, from 17 till 20 September 2024.

The conferences builds on the successes of previous UCRA editions held in Zaragoza (2019) and Warwick (2022). It addresses the continuing trends in catalysis that exceed traditional applications in industrial reactors and are expanding into new areas, such as health, personal protection, climate and energy.

Catalysis “beyond the reactor” presents a research area, in which interdisciplinary collaborations between the classical catalysis science, chemical and materials engineering, applied physics, electrical engineering, energy technology, information technology, biology or medicine play crucial role. Our conference brings together those collaborating disciplines, in order to provide insights in the latest developments and to map the future of this exciting research area.

Honorary and plenary speakers confirmed:

  • Frances H. Arnold (Caltech, USA; Nobel Prize in chemistry 2018)
  • Jeffrey A. Hoffman (MIT, USA; 5x NASA astronaut)
  • Marc-Olivier Coppens (UCL, UK)
  • Joanna Kargul (University of Warsaw, PL)
  • Sabine Flitsch (University of Manchester, UK)
  • Karsten Reuter (Fritz-Haber-Institut, DE)
  • Martin van Sint Annaland (Eindhoven University of Technology, NL)

The organizers invite scientific contributions addressing the following areas:

  1. Trends in unconventional catalysis, e.g.:
    • Directed evolution of enzymes
    • Nature-inspired catalysts
    • Nanocatalysts for intracellular catalysis
    • Hybrid systems (homogeneous/heterogeneous; natural/artificial catalysts, etc.)
    • Artificial metalloenzymes
    • Bio-orthogonal catalysis
    • Novel plasmonic materials
    • Agricultural waste as catalysts
  2. Catalysis in unconventional environments and applications, e.g.:
    • Biocatalysts for direct solar conversion of CO2
    • Nanocatalysts in living systems (cells, organisms. cancer theranostics)
    • Catalysis in urban environment (e.g. indoor and outdoor air purification)
    • Photocatalysis on antimicrobial surfaces
    • Catalysis in Space exploration
    • Catalysis for human safety (escape masks, decomposition of chemical warfare agents)
  3. Unconventional methods in catalyst development, synthesis and manufacturing, e.g.:
    • AI in catalyst development and synthesis
    • Novel catalyst preparation methods: sonochemical, microwave, plasma-induced, plant- and bio- assisted methods, preparation and stabilization of catalytic clusters, ALD, etc.
    • Automated methods, fabrication based on theoretical predictions of catalytic system
  4. Unconventional catalytic reactors, e.g.:
    • Reactors with unconventional catalyst activation (plasma, microwaves, induction heating, joule heating, light)
    • Reactors with multifunctional reaction media (chemical looping catalysis, catalytic membranes)
    • Novel electrochemical cells (here we cover advances in fuel-cell related technologies and electrochemical hydrogen pumps)
    • Reactors with novel catalyst supports: 3D-printed supports, natural structures as catalytic supports, paper, smart membranes and thin films, etc.

Authors presenting at UCRA-3 will be given an opportunity to publish their works in Special Issues of the refereed journals.
